One of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s original soul musicians is poised to perform an evening of music that influenced him as an artist, and he’s pulled together a noteworthy ensemble of musicians to play with him.

Mike Dougherty Band will take the stage at 10 p.m. Friday at the River Street Jazz Cafe, 667 N. River Street, Plains Township, and will present an evening of funk, soul and Motown, featuring the music of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Al Green and more. Music begins at 9 p.m., and DJ Evil Bee will open the evening.

Dougherty, who showed his vocal prowess as the lead singer of local Led Zeppelin tribute Misty Mountain, has found his calling as an original songwriter and instrumentalist in the soul, R&B and funk genres.

Accompanying Dougherty to play the songs of some of the icons of those styles will be guitarist Andy Sleboda, bassist Jon Ventre, keyboard player Angelo Miraglia and drummer Bob Scorey, each an accomplished player who has contributed to celebrated local acts.

Tickets cost $8 in advance and $12 the day of the show and are available online at bit.ly/2HokZHZ and at the door on Friday evening. For more information, visit riverstreetjazzcafe.com or call 570-822-2992.
