A one-hour special that was planned to debut later this year has developed into a new Spike series starring a local artist.

Shavertown resident and reigning “Ink Master” champion Ryan Ashley Malarkey will be featured in a 10-episode season of “Ink Master: Angels.” It will air in the fall of 2017 following the conclusion of season nine of “Ink Master,” which premieres tonight.

Malarkey will star alongside three other top female competitors from season eight — Kelly Doty, Nikki Simpson and Gia Rose — as they challenge talented tattoo artists from throughout the country. The new talent crop will vie for a spot on season 10 of “Ink Master.”

According to a press release from Spike: “As the ‘Ink Master’ franchise continues to grow, we are thrilled to work with Ryan Ashley (Malarkey), Kelly Doty, Nikki Simpson and Gia Rose on ‘Ink Master: Angels.’ The fan-favorite females of season eight will add a new voice to the franchise and help us discover the best artists around the country.”
