The two major rules of planning a wedding are stay on budget and stick to your timeline. At least, that’s what I think the two major rules are, and for good reason.

While I am a pro at staying on budget, the timeline is a completely different story. I, now more than ever, understand why people hire wedding planners. Mikey and I both have full-time jobs — and our hours are not compatible in any way, shape or form — so accomplishing things in a timely fashion sometimes feels impossible.

I have downloaded every app, searched every website to keep an airtight timeline, and I have tried to stick to it, but sometimes I feel like time is slowly slipping away from us (which eventually will mean we are out of time).

Remember how I said I was having those dreams where nothing was done by the wedding? Those fears still ring true.

In reality, I know that we are sticking to the timeline, and according to a lot of experts (and bloggers, planners, and brides themselves), we are right on target. Yet, I feel like so little is done.

I think I feel so far behind because, comparatively speaking, we still have a lot of time left before the wedding (most time lines work on a yearly schedule). But I want to be prepared and my Type A personality traits tell me I need to be ahead of the curve, which causes headaches for me and Mikey.

I often wonder how women plan weddings in shorter time frames (and I have an immeasurable respect for them).

Every time I look at my timeline, I think “there is still SO much to do” rather than “oh look, we are doing great.”

Last time I asked for advice on where brides get inspiration, but this time I’m asking about staying on task. What’s the best advice for new brides on creating and sticking to a timeline?

What do you wish you did differently when creating your own timeline for your wedding?

And, for any brides who are in the same boat as I am, I am going to attempt to help! Starting in two weeks, I will be sitting down with some brides in various stages of wedding planning to hear their ideas, tips and tricks to wedding planning.
