Kayaking Level One, an hour-long session for people ages 9 and older who have never kayaked before, 3 p.m. June 20, Nescopeck State Park, Honey Hole Road, Drums, $5 per person, payable on the day of the program with exact change required. Call 570-403-2006 to register.

Kayaking: Lake Paddle, 5:30 p.m. June 20 at Nescopeck State Park, Honey Hole Road, Drums. This is not instructional, so you should have attended introductory course or have kayak experience to sign up. Register in advance by calling 570-403-2006. Cost is $5 per person, payable the day of the program, with exact change required.

First Day of Summer Hike, along the Grand View Trail to see the mountain laurel in bloom. Bring a camera. Hike is a moderate, 2-mile trek. 9 to 11 a.m. June 21. Park and meet at the shale pit off of Route 487 in Ricketts Glen State Park. Contact Rhiannon Summers at 570-477-7780 or [email protected] for info.

First Day of Summer Paddle, leisurely paddle on Lake Jean. Registration required with Rhiannon Summers at 570-477-7780 or [email protected] 1 to 3 p.m. June 21 at Ricketts Glen State Park. Park and meet at the Western Boat Launch.

Riverfest, family event features live animal shows, music, activities for kids, food, vendors, DCNR, PA Fish & Boat, Forestry, Master Gardeners, kayak displays and more. Noon to 5 p.m. June 23 at Nesbitt Park in Kingston.

Lehigh Gap Trails, difficult 8-mile hike with the Susquehanna Trailers Hiking Club. Meet at 9:45 a.m. June 24 at the Sears Auto Center, Wyoming Valley Mall and leave at 10 a.m. Bring lunch and water. Leader Tom Barnard 570-262-7957.

FUTURE

Archery for Kids, beginners are invited to join the park naturalist for an introductory program. Meet behind the Patrick Solano Education Building at Frances Slocum in Kingston Township. 10 a.m. June 30. For ages 9 to 14. In the event of inclement weather, call 570—696-9105 to confirm program is being held.

Salamander Search, for ages 6 and older, starts in the Campground Amphitheater with a short introduction to salamanders. Then the group will embark on an amphibian adventure and try to catch live examples. 2 p.m. June 30, Frances Slocum State Park in Kingston Township.
