Dear Melissa,

My boyfriend’s family has always been great to me. Since day one, they have made me feel like one of their own. Lately, it seems they are treating me differently, but when I bring it up to him, he says it’s all in my head. I can’t shake this feel that something is up. What do I do?

Trusting my gut

Dear gut,

If you are noticing a difference, try to be proactive about it. Offer to make a big family dinner, ask his mom to teach you one of his grandmother’s recipes. Spend time around them. If he is saying it’s all in your head, he might be right. Perhaps there is something going on that you aren’t aware of or maybe they are just suffering from the winter blues. It might have absolutely nothing to do with you. Just be present and pleasant. You might be happy to find out it’s all in your head. If it is not, then you will have the ability to mend whatever broken bridges have formed by reminding them why they loved you in the first place.
