GAR grad Harris becomes NYPD officer

WILKES-BARRE — Vincent Matthew Harris, 31, a 2005 G.A.R. High School graduate, was accepted to the New York Police Department Academy in January of 2018 and graduated on July 2, with a class of 726 NYPD officers.

The July 2018 NYPD graduating class included officers from 41 different countries who speak 47 different languages.

Harris has been assigned to the 46th Precinct, nicknamed the “Alamo,” in the Bronx. Harris’ late grandfather, Willie O. Harris, was an NYPD officer until his retirement.

Harris is the son of William C. Harris, Wilkes-Barre City Planning and Zoning director, and Karen M. Harris of Kendall Park N.J. His grandparents are Vivian L. Harris and Juanita Mathews; siblings, Alexandria Jenkins, Quentin H. Harris, Lillian L. Harris, Anthony W. Harris and Andre’ W. Harris.

Vincent started his NYPD career as a school safety agent under the New York City Department of Education.
