The F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts announced today that comedian, actor and boundary-pusher Eddie Izzard will perform at the downtown Wilkes-Barre theater, 71 Public Square, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2.

Performing since his teens, Izzard has enthralled audiences with his surreal, stream-of-consciousness humor and is known for breaking a mold as a self-proclaimed “action transvestite,” performing in makeup and heels and championing “total clothing” rights.

According to a press release from the Kirby Center, Izzard’s lines “Cake or death?” “Death Star canteen” and “Do you have a flag?” have reached “the status of great rock lyrics.”

On his current tour, Izzard has visited more than forty countries worldwide and performed in four languages: English, French, German and Spanish.

“With his brand of keenly intelligent humor that ranges from world history to historical politics, sexual politics, mad ancient kings, and chickens with guns, he has built an extraordinary fan base that transcends age, gender and race,” the release states.

Tickets range from $39.50 to $59.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday through The Sundance Vacations Box Office at the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts, online at kirbycenter.org and by phone at 570-826-1100. An exclusive pre-sale for Kirby members begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
