The F.M. Kirby Center announced today that baseball great Pete Rose will visit the downtown Wilkes-Barre theater, 71 Public Square, at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15.
“4,192 An Evening with Pete Rose Live” offers a Broadway-style theatrical experience that documents the glory days of America’s pastime through the stories of Rose, baseball’s hit king.
According to a press release from the Kirby Center, the “production uses hi-tech multimedia that creates a game-day atmosphere. The stage will be transformed into a field of memories, and the audience will be transported to the golden-era of baseball.”
Known for giving 100 percent of himself to every play, Rose earned the nickname “Charlie Hustle” and became baseball’s all-time leader in hits, games played and at bats.
Making his major-league debut in 1963, Rose earned National League Rookie of the Year honors, logged 200 hits 10 times, won batting titles in ‘68 and ‘69, and won Gold Glove Awards as an outfielder in ‘69 and ‘70.
