Swedish metal band Ghost to perform at F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre

The F.M. Kirby Center announced today that Grammy-winning Swedish heavy metal outfit Ghost will perform at 8 p.m. Dec. 5 at the downtown Wilkes-Barre theater, 71 Public Square.

Writing and performing under a veil of mystery and behind makeup and masks for more than a decade until frontman Papa Emeritus revealed himself to be Tobias Forge last year, Ghost has earned a reputation for the theatrical.

According to a press release from the Kirby Center, “for the … rock band, each album is more like a film release than a record release. Forge conceives the role of every character, and overseas everything from the screenplay to video to wardrobe design to artwork to cinematography to soundtrack.”

Ghost’s third album, “Meliora,” and its accompanying EP, “Popestar,” launched the already burgeoning band to international stardom and took home the Grammy for best metal performance.

The band’s latest album, for which Forge’s newest persona, Cardinal Copia, has assumed the role of lead vocalist, was released earlier this month.

“‘Prequelle,’ lyrically delves into the plague, the apocalypse and dark ages,” the press release states. “The entire body of work is also a snapshot of the world in which we live on a daily basis, brought to life through an emotive, enlightening and riveting body of songs.”

Tickets range from $37.75 to $75 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through the Kirby Center box office, online at kirbycenter.org and by phone at 570-826-1100. A pre-sale for Kirby members begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Tickets for Ghost’s Dec. 5 performance at the F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre go on sale to the general public Friday.
