Lynyrd Skynyrd to perform at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre Township

Iconic Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd has announced that it will perform on Nov. 30 at the Mohegan Sun Arena, 255 Highland Park Blvd., Wilkes-Barre Township.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted group — known for transcendent hits “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird” as well a catalog of memorable songs that includes “Simple Man,” “Gimme Three Steps,” “What’s Your Name,” and “You Got That Right” — has made a lasting mark on American music and fostered the Southern rock genre alongside outfits like the Allman Brothers Band and the Marshall Tucker Band, which will accompany Skynyrd during the Nov. 30 stop in Wilkes-Barre Township.

Skynyrd visits the Mohegan Sun Arena as part of its Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour.

“This farewell tour has already been the perfect end to an incredible run, and we are not even halfway through the tour yet. There is still lots of road to go and lots of fans to see one last time,” founding member Gary Rossington said in a press release from Live Nation.

“Every crowd so far has been incredible,” lead vocalist Johnny Van Zant added. “The energy and excitement they have been giving us has been like fuel on a fire. We can’t wait to get our there each night and burn it up.”

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s already indelible career was famously derailed in October 1977 when a plane crash claimed the lives of original lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and bandmates Steve and Cassie Gaines along with several members of the band’s road crew. After a decade-long hiatus, the group reunited with Van Zant’s brother, Johnny, fronting the group and has solidified the Skynyrd legacy ever since.
