Taste on the Beach: Head to Long Beach’s National Boulevard for a beachfront party on Aug. 4, starting at 6 p.m. The evening includes live music, food, wine and beer. At 9 p.m., the Shorts on the Beach Film Series will be held in a tent. Some of the best studio and independent short films from across the world will be shown. Summer Streets: On Aug. 5, 12 and 19, seven miles of city streets will be closed to vehicular traffic. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., use the streets for healthy recreation and use more sustainable forms of transportation. There are six rest stops along the route offering free activities from a water park in Central Park to a zip line down 53rd Street. Each rest stop offers exciting and fun activities. Ecofest: On August 6, Ecofest takes place in Times Square from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The exhibit focuses on conserving natural resources and showcases alternative-energy technologies. Check out a variety of alternative-energy vehicles from electric to solar to hybrid cars. The day also includes the ECO-FASHION SHOW presenting clothes made from organic and recycled materials. Outdoor Movies: Throughout the summer, you can find tons of outdoor movie screenings in city parks and attractions like the Intrepid. On Aug. 6, check out two popular family-friendly films. “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” plays in the Rockaways in Broad Channel Park (Cross Bay Boulevard from East 16th to East 18th roads in Queens) from 8 to 10 p.m. From 8:15 to 10:30 p.m., see “A League of Their Own” at Field 81 in Randall’s Island Park in Manhattan.
