• The Free-Spirited Woman Bracelet (Union Progresista Artesnal, Mexico)
This group creates alpaca jewelry. Most of the workers work directly from their home and aim to have fair wages for their group and within their neighborhoods. Ten Thousand Villages has been purchasing jewelry from this group since 1988.
• Engraved Bar Hook Earrings (Union of Peasants for Self Development, Niger)
Founded by Illies Mouhmoud and acquaintances with early days of selling from a backpack, this now-organized group makes traditional Tuareg jewelry. Profits serve as another way for them to make money besides their subsistence farming.
• Glass Bead Organza Necklace (Tara Projects, India)
This fair trade program allows for artists from Northern India to sell their merchandise internationally. The program funds such things as nonformal education programs, fair wages and health and environmental awareness. Since 1986, Ten Thousand Villages has been purchasing jewelry, ornaments, Rajasthani puppets, etc. from the Tara Projects.
