This is serious business. With the end of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” nearing, this group of girls must get their guidette social hour exactly right. With chicken cacciatore cooking in the kitchen and red wine flowing from the bottles, Tatum Neiderhiser, Ashley Eisenman, Erin Kane and Jenny Verdine’s weekly Thursday night together is one filled with Italian cooking, Italian wine consumption, New York Italian accents and design.
Design? That’s right — the fashionable foursome have some serious designer wear that would make any fan of Rhode Island’s newly notorious DJ Pauly D very jealous.
Huge fans of the highly talked about — and highly criticized — “Jersey Shore,” this group of creative friends decided to turn the television night into a fun evening among friends and fashion. Turning quotes from the “Jersey Shore” cast into T-shirts, tank tops and various other items, the group gathers around Tatum’s dining room table and through laughter and dinner, craft stenciled pieces of art. From cast member, Snookie’s line, “Frickin duck phone” to an unnamed extra yelling, “Who’s your fat friend?,” who would have thought such laughable lines would make great tank tops? This DIY team, that’s who.
Taking it a step further, Ashley Eisenman, better known locally as DJ Freckletone or “Skipper,” designed sweat pants mocking the Juicy Couture version. Instead of “JUICY” written across the backside of the pants, Ashley chose a more humorous route, embellishing the pants with words such as “squirty” and “leaky.” She completed her homage to the show by putting on fake French manicured nails and giving herself a quick spray tan.
“I’m their No. 1 fan,” she expressed. “I sprayed dirt on my face for this show!”
After hearing about this Thursday night tradition, the intrigue to write a story about it was all-consuming. With camera and notebook in hand, I ventured over to Tatum’s home and was greeted by the group who were busy constructing their next great “Jersey Shore” masterpiece. Instantly given my Jersey Shore name “Bangs,” or “Bangin’” as it was later stated, I was instructed to take a seat and get working on my own design. I listened to their instructions on how to actually use the materials, and then thought of my “Jersey Shore” line and what my clothing item should look like. With a blank canvas in front of me, I decided to turn my white tank top into a tribute to cast member, Mike “The Situation” by printing “G.T.L.,” his abbreviation for “gym, tanning, laundry” in the Italian flag colors.
After the clothing design was completed, the party moved into the living room to watch the double episode of the “Jersey Shore.” With all of us toting glasses of red wine, we laughed hysterically at the new “Jersey Shore” verbiage of the night and finished the evening with a fabulous fashion show put on by the four fans and close-knit friends. Tatum’s dog, Mani Santos, even engaged in the activities by wearing an embellished black shirt.
Humorous and catchy enough to actually sell, the idea of putting together an Etsy site has come up in conversation. These items would be hot sellers and have fans everywhere ready for all eight of the “Jersey Shore” episodes. I have a feeling there will be reruns for quite some time after this Thursday.
If so, I know which party I’m crashing for the reunions. Friends, food, fashion and the “Jersey Shore” — now that’s a girl’s night-in worth repeating.
