Last year, I fell back in love with the one piece. I love classic suits that may appear similar to the suits worn in the 1950s. But I also love fun suits, ones that will cause you to look different than all the other bathing beauties at the beach. This started at childhood.
In my youth, I preferred a bathing suit that had loud tiger designs or bright colors that caused me to practically glow in the dark. When my Aunt Susan, who resided in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., retired her suits during the 1980s, she would send them up to my family in case any of us wanted them. My aunt was always petite, but still, the suits would be a bit too large for anyone of us to wear in public. Since my sisters never had an interest in any of the loud Floridian suits, I would sport them around the house, jumping in and out of the pool on hot summer days. The only problem was these were suits from the 1980s. Have you ever seen some of the suits from the 1980s? With necklines down to the bellybutton, and the sides sitting very high on the hip, I must have looked like a child prostitute. I didn’t know the difference and besides, these were play suits to run up to the pool in my backyard during my summer off from elementary school. Until the day of course, I wore one on a Saturday and came running up the backyard hill with it on. My dad was outside. And that was the last of the 1980s slinky Floridian suits for Rachel.
These days, we can own wild suits without baring it all. We might spend a little bit more money on them, but we can turn heads with the designs alone and look like one-of-a-kinds during our vacations. Summer is about having fun and your bathing suit should say the same thing.
