Squishy Sushi’s recycled jewelry

Squishy Sushi, out of the San Francisco Bay area, has a little known secret. Common objects can often be turned into fashionable accessories. Since recycled items seem to be very en vogue, this line is the perfect answer to the eco-chic connoisseur. With items such as recycled Scrabble pieces and dominos, old game pieces can be brought back to life through jewelry.

Sure, you may have seen recycled Scrabble pieces before, but Squishy Sushi’s jewelry has a different flare. With apparent Asian influences, as if the company name didn’t give it away already, Squishy Sushi will add recycled Japanese newspaper to create bangles and imagery such as Asian women dressed in kimonos. The dominos are coated with a thick resin to give them a high gloss, protective finish. They are worn as pendants on necklaces and give a funky earth-friendly look. Some of the other products used to dress up an old Scrabble piece or domino include Japanese chiyogami paper and recycled magazines. In addition to pendants, Squishy Sushi also makes cuff links, a perfect unisex present, as well as Scrabble bookmarks and rings. All items are made with waterproof materials, but Squishy Sushi does not suggest wearing it in the rain or in the shower.

In addition to the recycled game pieces and magazine pages, Squishy Sushi also creates silver jewelry. Using art clay silver and combined with other materials, the product can be molded into pieces of art which in turn creates one of a kind jewelry. Art clay silver is recycled silver from various products such as film negatives from the Aida Corporation of Japan.

Squishy Sushi’s products are available on etsy.com, www.SquishySushi.net, various boutiques in the California area as well as one shop in Florida. If you’re in the Bay area, you just may also catch the company at a local craft fair. Visit its Web site to see which California events they’ll be present.
