Jeans to fit

Jean shopping: The war that leaves some women feeling wounded and resistant to endure the inevitable pain again. These women stick to cotton and because of their rollercoaster experiences with jean sizes, they prohibit any denim to enter their now anger-free closet. Yes, jeans can make any woman have a breakdown, especially after the holidays. But this trauma does not need to be apparent forever. Sure, back in the day there weren’t a lot of jeans that differentiated according to body structure. But those days are long gone, and so should the intense fear of jean shopping.

Choose jeans that fit. It’s that simple.

One of the worst mistakes a woman can make when buying jeans is buying ones that simply don’t fit. There are a number of very common mistakes that result in hideous outfits and either A.) Make a woman refute jeans based on how awful they look on another woman, or B.) Wear the jeans improperly, giving up on ever looking good in a pair. Let’s break it down:

1. The flat butt

If the back pockets of the jeans seem to squish the buttocks down, making it appear that the woman now has flat hindquarters, the jeans do not fit. This is an unattractive look and should be avoided at all costs. It makes a woman look long in the butt and overall, fat, since it appears to be squeezing the butt down and across, leaving a flat area that was once round.

2. The dragging cuffs

Jeans should come to the ankle, no matter what fit they are. Jeans that drag on the floor while in stride result in frayed bottoms and worse yet, they get dirty. Not all women can have legs that come out of their ears. This is understood. But if the jeans are a must have and are too long, a high heel must be worn — no ifs, ands or buts. The cuff of the jean must be lifted off the floor no matter what. Having them drag even slightly looks sloppy.

3. The square butt

Some jeans seem to have been constructed with 100-percent starch. These thicker jeans need to be bought with caution. If too large of a size is chosen, even by a hair, the end result is a boxy, square butt. Obviously, this is a bad look. Even if a woman has a small frame and is generally petite, thick denim that doesn’t give will square off a butt if they are slightly too large. The butt of the jeans simply sits there and keeps to its form — not the woman’s. If the butt doesn’t fill out what the jeans intended, the jeans simply don’t care and will be stubborn. It’s not moving. A boxy butt is not a hot butt.

4. The loose butt

Some jeans are thinner and have some Lycra in the fabric. These jeans are made to contour to the body. Buying too large of a size means a droopy butt. A thin woman will most likely need to buy a size smaller than what she normally wears (unless the jeans are a really good brand). These jeans are made to show off the butt, not hide it. A droopy butt makes the jeans look like they’re hanging off the woman. That’s because they are — if the right size is not chosen.

There are several types of jeans that a woman can buy: skinny, bootcut, flare and straight leg. These are the four styles from which a woman should choose. Using the above guide and buying jeans within these categories should make jean shopping a little bit easier.

Women should hate the wrong fits, not jeans in general. It is wrong to generalize anything in life. The same applies to jeans.
