In today‚??s society, the news is filled with grim tales about life, death, and negativity. Local musician Ronnie Williams of 40 Lb. Head wanted to stop the negativity today and encourage the public to take a smile break.

He started a Facebook page called ‚??Project Smile :o).‚?Ě This was intended to be a social experiment, encouraging everyone to take a moment out of their lives and just smile. Today at 11 a.m., and every day for the next two weeks at that time, no matter how bad things seem to be, or what stresses you have in your life, Ronnie is encouraging everyone to take 30 seconds and just smile. His logic is that if you are in a public place that smiling in contagious and that smiling at others will result in them smiling back at you.

At its inception, 327 people joined the online movement in the first 20 minutes. Today at 11 a.m., smile went viral. Presently, there are 568 active participants and the number is growing by the second. The page was flooded with pictures and videos of people stopping their day and just smiling. They are sharing happy sentiments, personal stories, and heartwarming thoughts with people they don‚??t even know. The most touching stories are people celebrating personal successes. There are many people posting about battles with cancer, survival, the miracles of life, and caring for their fellow man.

This morning, The Weekender took a few minutes to speak with Williams. Addressing what inspired the idea, Ronnie stated that just seeing all of the negativity in today‚??s world was enough to make him want to use his status as a local personality to reach out to as many people as he could. His goal was to turn the negative energy into positive through a collective conscious idea. He believes that if everyone has their minds on the same thing at the same time, that maybe the energy that surrounds us can change.

It appears to be working. Everyone can smile. It‚??s an instant mood elevator, costs nothing but a moment in time, and is good for the soul. If you haven‚??t already, Ronnie encourages all of us to take a moment and smile.
