On Saturday, Oct. 26, Mount Airy Casino and Resort hosted the over- the-top, wild, and crazy RuPaul’s Drag Race at Gypsies Nightclub. This show featured the musical and comedic talents of the fabulous and always glamorous Jinx Monsoon, Sherry Vine, Mimi Imfurst, and Pandora Boxx, stars of the Logo network’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “RuPaul’s Drag U.”
The show was Halloween-themed and opened with a high-spirited performance from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The ladies confidently did “The Time Warp” and segments from the “Floor Show” in heels so high that Tim Curry himself would have given them a standing ovation, or a high kick.
Fan favorite and drag race winner Jinx Monsoon dazzled the stage with her sparkling personality as she adorned costume after costume and wig after wig. One minute a blonde, the next a fiery redhead, she was even able to pull off pink, like only the finest of drag royalty could. She has the voice of an angel and sang a variety of medleys, ranging from Disney tunes to Janis Joplin to The Carpenters, and more. Her outfits were adorned with so much glitter that she sparkled like a diamond, and her collection of shoes would make any woman drool.
The show also starred the fantastic Sherry Vine, whose impersonations of Lady Gaga and Cher were convincing enough to be featured in Las Vegas; she was surely a treat for the Pocono Mountain crowd. Sherry proudly danced around the stage with four sweaty and scantily clad gentlemen as she sang the praises of her inner dirty girl. She is admittedly always a lady and often a tramp – and she likes it that way.
Mimi Imfurst’s comedy and dirty jokes added an element to this show that made it less than mother approved. The highlight of her show was a parody of Adele’s hit “Someone Like You.” Her version, “Someone to Screw,” was everything a girl going through a breakup would ever want to say to a cheating ex, and it is now available on iTunes.
The final queen to perform was the fabulous Pandora Boxx. She embraced RuPaul’s mantra of “lip-sync for your life” as she performed a skit from “Harry Potter.” She made a very convincing Hermione Granger before busting out of her wizard’s robe and into a foxy Gryffindor corset. The beautiful blonde bombshell dazzled the audience with her seductive smile, suggestive dance moves, and coy, off-color jokes.
Overall, the show was a delight. Mount Airy once again keeps bringing fresh performances to the stage and is really at the top of their game with embracing a diverse lineup of shows for the season. Tickets are available for purchase at mountairycasino.com/play/entertainment/headliners.
