The ultimate Petty collection

With chart-toppers in the past three decades, a coveted slot at the Super Bowl halftime show and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, it’s no doubt Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have made their mark in music history.

That history is exactly what the band is sharing with the upcoming “Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers: The Live Anthology.” While there isn’t any “new” music, the collection includes never-before-released live tracks, some original songs or covers that have never been heard before — unless, of course, you attended the concert. Producers Petty, Mike Campbell (who has been with Petty since the beginning as a co-writer and lead guitarist) and Ryan Ulyate went through hundreds of live tracks to put this massive collection together.

For the past month or so, Petty fans who purchased the unique, digital experience, “The Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Superhighway Tour,” have been getting a sneak listen at the tracks, which include live performances from around the world from 1978 until 2007. TomPetty.com just recently released the entire, much-awaited track list for the five-disc live anthology.

“The Live Anthology” is available in a few different formats:

The “Superhighway Tour” went on sale Sept. 29 ($24.98) and each week gives fans two or more previously unreleased live tracks, as well as rare memorabilia, band commentary, vintage merchandise (for sale), user forums and more. By the end of the tour, fans will have received 24 tracks, and on the 24th, “Superhighway” ticket holders will be digitally delivered the remaining 24 tracks to complete the 48-track set. Additionally, ticket holders get the “Live Anthology” set for $99; for everyone else, it’s about $150.

“The Collector’s Deluxe Box Set,” which is to be released Nov. 22, set will only be available at Best Buy (or online for “Superhighway” ticket holders) and includes 62 tracks on five CDs, plus two previously unreleased DVDs, including a 1978 New Year’s Eve concert and a documentary, “400 Days,” taped during the recording and tour for “Wildflowers.” This collection also includes a re-mastered vinyl record of the 1976 “Official Live ’Leg” bootleg, a high-resolution Blu-ray audio disc featuring all 62 tracks, a deluxe book with liner notes, a lithograph reproduction of cover art, a reproduction of a 1997 concert poster from the Fillmore West in San Francisco and assorted authentic satin vintage backstage passes.

“The Standard Collection” is a 4-CD set of 48 tracks plus a booklet, available everywhere Nov. 23.

A 48-track digital album will be available from digital outlets on Nov. 23 or through the “Superhighway Tour.”

A 51-track vinyl deluxe box set with deluxe booklet with liner notes will also be available on Nov. 23.
