This week’s ride, a 2005 Honda Civic EX, comes from Vaughn Kazokas, a listener of Froggy 101 who heard about the Weekender’s Motorhead. Kazokas is very serious about his Civic, which he calls his “precious.” It was the love of his Civic and taking the car to various car shows all around the area where Kazokas met his girlfriend, Amanda Evans. (Until recently, Evans owned a fully customized car as well).
In doing all the work on his “precious,” Kazokas has taken what is a very common car and turned it into something extraordinary. Introduced in the United States in 1973, the Civic is the second longest continually produced Japanese car available in America; only the Toyota Corolla, introduced in 1968, has been around longer. The Civic has actually gone through eight different generations, as Honda has transformed the car from a bare-bones subcompact with very little luxury items into one of the higher-end compact cars available in the United States. Kazokas’ Civic belongs to the seventh generation of Civics, produced by Honda from 2001-05. A redesign with a more curved, aerodynamic exterior began the eighth generation of the Car in 2006.
Kazokas says that he is very serious about the import car show scene, and he takes his Civic to shows all over the tri-state area during the summer. Kazokas also belongs to the Barely Legal Kustom Car and Truck Club, and he says that he considers the members of the club a “close group of friends.”
Kazokas has made several modifications to take his Civic from standard to custom, including Lambo doors, 18-inch white rims, a full-body kit, headlights, tail lights, a new intake, exhaust, an in-dash Clarion DVD player and a full stereo system including two 12-inch HL 12W3 subwoofers, a JL 500 amplifier and a HLE4300 amplifier. The car also has a Nintendo game system installed.
In addition, Kazokas has given the Civic custom pedals and shift knob, as well as a chrome gas cap.
Kazokas’ Civic has won several awards, including placing in the Top 15 at the Royal Tz Annual Car Show Last Year, winning at Wheels-N-Heels at Gentlemen’s Club 10, and it has won second place in performance and sound at the Carlisle Car Show.
With the summer car shows coming around once again, Kazokas says to be sure to look for him and his award winning Honda Civic at shows all over the area.
