Not exactly chocolate and peanut butter

Michael Lello  by Michael Lello
I was driving through Sherman Hills in Wilkes-Barre Thursday blasting Belle and Sebastian (if you can blast Belle and Sebastian), and I just had to laugh, mostly at myself. (If you know Belle and Sebastian and you know Sherman Hills, then you’re laughing too.)

It got me thinking about how sometimes two things that couldn’t be more different have no choice but to co-exist, for at least a few minutes anyway. The world’s too small for everything to have its own isolated niche. This leads to conflict, this leads to fun and it also apparently led to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Then I got back to the Weekender office, looking like a bespectacled dork with my tucked-in polo shirt, cradling my keys, phone, camera, a T-shirt and a stack of CDs past a bunch of model-ish looking girls taping a video podcast.

“What’s up,” I said sheepishly, then retreated to my cubicle. I felt like Dilbert. Turns out these were the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers arenafootball2 team’s promo squad. Seemed like a pleasant enough bunch. But I had to laugh again when I was listening to Man Man on my headphones and I heard “Weekender night out! Yae!”

Not exactly chocolate and peanut butter.
