Hectic Management and Promotions hosts Musical Mixer VI to help launch Unsigned Radio
SCRANTON — To ring in the new year with some fresh tunes, Unsigned Radio and Hectic Management & Promotions will host the NEPA Musical Mixer VI at 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 2 at the Irish Wolf Pub in Scranton. The evening will include music by Greenfly, DJ McEvil, Adam Bailey and Dulla.
Celebrating a year since NEPA Musical Mixer I, Hectic owner Stephanie Hill has organized several events for the benefit of local and lesser known musicians, especially in under-supported genres. Hill, a musician who performs under the name Lady Hectic, and her husband, whose stage name is Quoth, are both creators and enthusiasts of electronic music, and Hill said it is important for them to organize social and artistic events.
“I noticed when I started doing this mixer thing, a lot of the shows around here are usually the same type of bands, and the same types of music are being played,” Hill said. “I wanted to do something to network, so to speak, to get different acts … that fans may not have heard before or never new existed. The electronic scene around here is a little lacking and it’s hard to gain followers.”
In creating this musical social network, Hill found like minded people in the founders of Unsigned Radio. The mixer is also acting as an official launch party for the website designed to stream original and unsigned music and created by Vito Carella and Bill Lee of Hawley.
In a Weekender article from December, Carella talked about the reason for the launch party as well as the need for an independent and small-artist minded radio station.
“It’s just something to get the name out there, for Unsigned Radio, to let people know we exist, so we can start getting more users,” Carella said.
The co-founder of Unsigned Radio talked about the need for such a website.
“The music industry is … awful,” Carella said. “The music isn’t the product anymore. The product is the band. They package them up. They try to produce them for their image, and the music takes a back seat. We want to give an equal opportunity to anyone who makes music to get out there.”
Admission for the event is $4.
