STEAK, SEAFOOD ON THE HORIZON
The 100 block of North Washington Avenue in Scranton will soon see a new tenant: Carl Von Luger’s. Owner Robert Dickert of Great Uncle Peter’s Steakhouse (1582 Newton Ransom Blvd., Clarks Summit), told Dish he’s estimating a June opening for the steak and seafood restaurant. It will be located on the ground floor of the city’s new parking garage.
“I think we’ll do very well there,” Dickert said of the location between Spruce Street and Lackawanna Avenue.
The restaurateur has a letter of intent with the parking authority for the space and is now just waiting on “some last-minute details.” He hopes to begin construction in March.
Carl Von Luger’s will be open for lunch — including deliveries — and dinner, and will also feature a Sunday brunch. While he plans on having white tablecloths and a doorman, Dickert assured that customers won’t break their wallets dining there.
“I’d rather put the quality of the product on the plate,” he said. Lunches will range from $6-$14, and dinners will start at around $12.
Both Carl Von Luger’s and Great Uncle Peter’s derive their name from Peter Luger, Dickert’s great-great uncle who founded Peter Luger Steak House in Brooklyn, N.Y. Though Dickert said he is keeping the location of Great Uncle Peter’s, he said he wasn’t ready to discuss the future of the 7-year old Clark Summit eatery.

JAD’S 2.0
Jad’s Place, inside the Quality Inn & Suites (400 Route 315, Pittston), may have a familiar name, but it’s been completely revamped by co-owners Mike Szumski and Mike Magnotta.
The two, formerly of Spur’s, made a smooth transition in December when Spur’s closed on a Sunday and Jad’s opened the following Wednesday with its weekly country line dancing.
“We have entertainment every night of the week,” Szumski said.
Mondays features open pool and pool leagues; Tuesday is open-mic night; Wednesday is country line dancing; Thursday’s live music will feature a rock band; and Friday and Saturday entertainment will alternate between rock and country. Beginning Sunday, Feb. 21, Jad’s will offer ballroom dancing lessons.
