MOONSHINE THEATER UP FOR AUCTION

The building that formerly housed the Moonshine Theater (335, 337 and 339 Adams Ave., Scranton), is up for auction by David R. Maltz & Co., a Plainview, N.Y., company. On Tuesday, Maltz Vice President Richard Maltz told the Weekender the auction will be held Thursday, Nov. 11. It is set to begin at 1 p.m.

The more than 20,000-square-foot property is broken into a first floor, a second floor, which houses a 1,200-capacity theater, a third floor, which houses a restored penthouse apartment and a lower level. The suggested opening bid, which includes purchase of the liquor license, is $450,000. The former Moonshine site is located in a Keystone Opportunity Zone, which is a tax-free zone.

The building was originally constructed in the late 1800s as an opera house. During its brief mid-2000s run, the Moonshine hosted several events, including a Mighty Fine Wine CD-release party and a Wishbone Ash show.

According to its website, Maltz & Co. is “the premier full-service auction company specializing in debt-related sales” and has “conducted thousands of auctions on behalf of such clients as the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts and financial institutions throughout the United States, the U.S. Department of Justice, The Internal Revenue Service, The U.S. Government Small Business Administration, law firms, private individuals and corporations.”
