Glassware: The inviting aroma of Maple Mistress must be experienced to fully enjoy this phenomenal fall beer. There is no shortage of glasses that help capture a beer’s aroma but for this delicious beer a tulip, snifter or Spiegelau’s new wit beer glass are the best options to get the most out of it.

Description: Maple Mistress pours a deep copper almost caramel color with a wispy off white head that doesn’t last too long and leaves thin streaks of lacing on the glass. The aroma is filled with notes of maple syrup with subtle spicing and sweet malts dancing in the background. The taste is filled with a perfect blend of spices, mainly cinnamon and nutmeg, with maple syrup and sweet caramel malts that combine to taste like a delicious pumpkin pie with a graham cracker crust and drizzles of maple syrup. The flavors are rich and decadent but blend perfectly together and manage to clean up after themselves without leaving behind a long lingering finish. The medium to full body is matched by moderate carbonation for a smooth creamy mouthfeel that only enhances the drinkability of this wonderful beer. While some pumpkin beers are more spice heavy Maple Mistress does wonders with maple syrup to create a superb beer for the fall season.

Food pairing: The perfect touches of sweetness and heavy malts with spices make Maple Mistress perfect with a wide array of wild game meats, but let’s face it; this is a beer that is a dream with desserts. Try pairing Maples Mistress with pralines and cream ice cream, the smooth creamy body of the beer will match perfect to the ice cream while the extra kick of sweetness and spices will grab onto one another and never let go. If you really want to experience the power of this ice cream and beer than make yourself a decadent fall inspired beer float! This is also the time when pumpkin everything is available on store shelves, but pumpkin pie is still the dish that started it all and there are few things more enjoyable than a great beer with a slice of pumpkin pie and do not forget the whipped cream.

The Final Word: While pumpkin beers can be extremely divisive among many craft beer purists when a beer is brewed well it is enjoyable to all regardless of style. Maple Mistress has a wonderful bouquet of fall aromas and flavors and is kicked up with a perfect dosing of maple syrup that just seems to warm the insides on a cool fall evening, or is that the 9.5 percent ABV? Saucony Creek has been brewing some world class beers and when stacked against a slew of other pumpkin beers Maple Mistress is still one of the best, which really says something. This is an absolute must try beer for all fans of great craft beers, the balance is perfect between sweet and spice and is surprisingly easy drinking despite the high ABV. Get it now while you still can find it!
