Have you ever imagined a book about absolutely nothing? Tedd Hazard did, that’s why he wrote one.
“My books can be about anything from an elderly man with a mental problem causing him to think he’s a crazed war veteran thirsty for blood, to absolute nonsense like ‘Total Crap,’” said Hazard. “I love to make people laugh. And cry, sometimes.”
That could be a good thing.
Hazard, 23, has been writing since 2002, but he’s been writing novels since 2006.
“The first one I did was a ‘write-as-I-go’ thing, and if you read it, you would notice,” said Hazard.
When asked where he’s from, Hazard gave a rather unique answer.
“I’m from Mars, but I tell the government I’m from Hazleton, just to keep appearances,” he said. “It’s a lovely area, though when your neighbors aren’t blasting loud calypso music.”
His graphic novels besides his new one “Total Crap” include “Spookymann: Bloody Thanksgiving,” which is based on a self-published series, and a more serious one, “John Smith: The E Chord is my Messenger of Death,” which he plans on doing a sequel to at some point in the near future.
Hazard’s graphic novels are self-published, and he also creates other published work.
“In ‘Chester the Crafty Pervert,’ I just draw; the publisher writes that one,” said Hazard.
“I never tried to get the graphic novels published by bigger companies mainly due to the fact that I like having creative control over my ‘bigger’ stories and books,” said Hazard.
Although writing is Hazard’s preferred way to make a living, he has another job. But he quickly stated that when his first big offer from a publishing company arrives, he’s out of there.
Besides Hazard’s writing abilities and his drawing skills, like creating caricatures, he has also dabbled in writing screenplays and experimented in the music scene.
“As of right now, I’m in an acoustic ska-punk project. It’s two guitars, a bassist and no drummer, but all of the feel and energy of a punk band.”
Hazard’s musical talents go a few years back to the day he got the name Tedd Hazard.
“I was in a ska-pop-punk band called Terror Town High,” he said. “The drummer of the band, Jarred Larock, referred to me as ‘Tedd Hazard’ in an interview. The name derives from another old band of mine, Choking Hazard. So, when I started taking interviews and doing a lot of comic book shows, I just stuck to Tedd Hazard so I don’t confuse anybody with my real name of Tedd Miller. Plus, Tedd Hazard sounds cool.”
Being that Hazard gets a lot of exposure in the comic book scene, he will appear at the Great Allentown Comic Conference on Saturday, July 17 at the Merchant Square Mall in Allentown as well at the Baltimore Comic Conference on Aug. 28-29 at the Baltimore Convention Center.
“To purchase my books and novels, there are a few stores in New Jersey and New York that sell them, and I’m pretty sure Comics on the Green and Unknown Comics in Scranton might still sell some of my older works,” said Hazard.
“Total Crap” is available at indyplanet.com. “Spookymann: Bloody Thanksgiving” and “John Smith: The E Chord is my Messenger of Death” can be found at Hazard’s Lulu site: lulu.com/teddhazard.
When asked if he could describe himself in one word, Hazard said “busy.” Why? Because he’s never not doing anything.
Figure that one out.
