If you didn’t know Hinder from its smash hit, the cheating anthem “Lips Of An Angel,” then you may have heard the band’s new single “Up All Night.” The song, from Hinder’s latest CD “Take It To The Limit,” includes lyrics like “The night’s far from over/ And I’m far from sober” and “We’re gonna be up all night/ Doing things your dad won’t like,” just continues to capture the fivesome’s comparison to another group of debauched devils, Motley Crue. It might not be a coincidence Hinder recently wrapped up the 2009 leg of the “Saints of Los Angeles” tour with the Crue.
Hinder hits the road again with Nickelback this summer, but stopped in Northeastern Pa. last Friday to play a show at the Kingston Armory. Before the show, the band — singer Austin Winkler, guitarists Joe “Blower” Garvey and Mark King, bassist Mike Rodden and drummer Cody Hanson — stopped by KRZ’s Spotlight Lounge to play a few songs for some lucky listeners.
After a soulful and stripped-down performance of “Without You” and “Lips Of An Angel,” Winkler and King answered five burning questions from the Weekender.
Weekender: Your reputation precedes you, and we can’t help but ask: How much partying do you cats really do?
Winkler: Walk on our bus around 2 a.m. and find out.
Weekender: What’s your drink of choice?
Winkler: Collectively, the band enjoys a nice club soda.
King: [laughs] Vodka, Jagermeister, rum, Scope.
Weekender: What was it like to tour with Motley Crue, who you are often compared to?
Winkler: It was crazy. That’s dream come true stuff. When we started this band, I had no idea we’d go on tour with Motley Crue for two months and rip up the United States with them.
Weekender: Your MySpace page has more than 55 million page views. What do you think about that?
King: That’s awesome. … I wish a quarter of those people would buy our records [laughs].
Winkler: Yeah, no shit!
Weekender: Your tour schedule is relentless. How do you stay sane on the road?
Winkler: Vodka, Jagermeister, rum, Scope …
