GIRL AT THE PARTY
Before Michael was the patriarch of the infamous Lohan clan, he was just a boy from Long Island who grew up to trade commodities on the New York Stock Exchange. Between drugs, alcohol, fast cars and a constant flow of money coming in, Lohan played as hard as he worked. However, he was about to meet someone at a party that would make him an honest man. While at a black-tie event, he decided to steal a bottle of champagne. The bottle fell from underneath his arm as he was scurrying toward the exit. As Lohan reached for the bottle, his head hit someone trying to help him. It was a young, beautiful woman. That’s how he met Dina.
THE PARENT, TRAPPED
“Everybody called us the Brady Bunch,” boasted Lohan on family life upon marrying Dina. However, after he was accused of insider trading, he was sent to prison. Once he was released, Lohan chaperoned Lindsay for her final audition in “The Parent Trap.” “That’s when I realized she had the talent to go far in this business,” he recalled, his eyes welling with tears. While filming “The Parent Trap” in California, Lindsay was hospitalized following an asthma attack. Violating his parole to fly out west and see her, he was sent back to prison. Years later Lindsay would express the heartache she felt in her song “Confessions of a Broken Heart,” where she confessed, “I wait for the postman to bring me a letter.” “I wrote her everyday,” Michael confirmed. “Dina hid the letters from the kids.”
‘I WANT MY FAMILY BACK’
“I miss the girl I fell in love with,” reminisced Lohan of ex-wife Dina. “She’s not the same person anymore.” It all started when he caught Dina’s 48-year-old brother smoking crack on the side of their garage. “Guess what your brother was doing,” Lohan asked his wife after finding her drinking a bottle of wine behind a plant in their bedroom the night of their son’s First Holy Communion party.
She refused to believe the truth. Trying to protect his family, the evening spiraled out of control, resulting in a fight that left Dina’s brother comatose. Dina filed divorce the next day. “You never saw me or Dina in the media until our divorce.”
FATHER OF THE YEAR
As I heard his story, I realized for myself that the humble man before me wasn’t thirsting fame. The reason he is in the media is to protect his family. What parent wouldn’t do the same? He does a lot that goes unnoticed, such as leading families affected by addiction to the proper rehabilitation program and preparing to open his own wellness rehabilitation center in Beverly Hills. That’s why I awarded him a Father of the Year certificate. I hope to be half the father he is!
