GREEN PIECE: Going Boho

Going green seems to be in high demand lately. Everywhere you look there are products on the market giving advice and telling you what to do and how to live a more eco-conscious lifestyle. It can be overwhelming, and it would be nice if there was something that had all of that useful information in one.

Not long ago I was browsing the magazine racks at a local bookstore and I came across Boho Magazine. I was immediately intrigued. Boho Magazine is a 100-percent eco-friendly publication. The magazine, from Seed Media, is the only fashion publication to use 100-percent recycled post-consumer waste paper and soy-based inks. Not only are the materials made to create the magazine impressive, but the editorial content is just as unique.

According to the magazine’s environmental stewardship, the paper used for print is Rolland Enviro100 Print. By using this type of paper instead of regular paper, Boho Magazine reduces its ecological footprint significantly. The magazine includes articles on green news, green fashion and beauty as well as articles and tips that inspire one to make a difference and go green.

Boho came out in August 2008 and has been on the rise ever since. The magazine also works with nonprofit organizations that support the same missions and values when it comes to protecting the environment. Boho inspires its readers to incorporate greener living and social consciousness when making decisions on beauty, travel and lifestyles in general.

Founder and editor-in-chief of Boho, Gina La Morte, felt that it was important to give back to the environment while providing her readers with a magazine that does not make consumers feel guilty.

“People need and desire to do good things and give back and help the environment,” said La Morte. “They want to make changes in their own environments and everyday experiences but still want to read a magazine, so we wanted to do it in the most eco-friendly way possible.”

In the most recent issue Boho covers a variety of topics including green fashion week from New York City to Portland, vegan beauty products, a Seattle-based environmentalist who offers tips on ways to live greener and lots more. If you’re looking for a little inspiration or even new ideas on living green, Boho magazine may be just the thing to spark your interest.

Boho is available at bookstores and newsstands nationwide. You can also visit www.bohomag.com for more information.
