Wildes
Anyone who missed Mountain Top native Christina Wildes in a Doritos commercial during Sunday’s Super Bowl can easily catch encore performances.
The 30-second spot that aired during the second-quarter of the big game went from possibly not airing at all to now being part of the nacho chip maker’s 2009 advertising campaign.
The ad was one of 2,000 shot by amateur filmmakers with the hope of seeing their work aired during the most-watched television broadcast of the year. The original plan was to air only the winner, based on online voting, but the company opted to go with two of the entries, including Wildes’ “The Power of the Crunch.”
Three other finalists, which didn’t air during the big game, will also see the light of day.
“We are so incredibly proud of all five finalists, we just couldn’t stop at the Super Bowl spotlight and had to take it a step further,” Ann Mukherjee, group vice president of marketing for Frito-Lay, which makes Doritos, said in a release.
All five commercials will run throughout the year.
The commercial featuring Wildes, 23, a 2003 Crestwood High School graduate, takes a comical look at the power contained within the crunch of the nacho cheese-flavored chips.
A guy bites into the chips and watches the results, including an ATM machine spitting out money, a police officer turning into a monkey and Wildes losing most of her clothes as she walks down the street.
In an interview with The Times Leader in January, the model and budding actress said the shoot wasn’t an easy one, but she knew if it aired it could be her big break.
“Everybody watches the Super Bowl for the commercials,” she said. “It would be a big steppingstone for me.”
Initial ratings, according to Nielson, show at least 48 million households viewed the game.
