Last month, while my parents and I were flying home from vacation, I scored the window seat. It’s always my preference, especially when flying alone. This was the first time in a long time that I had been on a flight with people to talk to, and I was so glad for one reason in particular.

Since I, a party of one, always request a window seat, I usually wind up in a seat over the wing. This is especially delightful at night because it makes me want to shout my favorite “Twilight Zone” quote: “There’s someone … on the wing!” — but only giving homage to the William Shatner version, not John Lithgow’s.

Much to the delight of my mother, who was sitting next to me, this is a comment I repeated over and over for pretty much the entire flight home from our layover in Cincinnati.

Shatner’s delivery is incredible. Hell, Shatner himself as a whole is just incredible. Whether he was hosting “One Hit Wonders” on VH1, running around as “T.J. Hooker” or just being Shatner, I’ve always been fascinated by him. Let it go on record, though, that I pretty much loathe “Star Trek.” (But if it was just Spock and Captain Kirk, I would totally be swayed.)

To me, Shatner is an icon like no other, a fact that was solidified when Weekender Editor Mike Lello brought the below video to my attention.

The fact that this has been in existence for decades without my knowledge is shameful to me, and I am embarrassed and agape at my ignorance of Shatner’s superstardom.

To you, Mr. Shatner, a “Rocket Man” among mere mortals, I bow.
