So school is back and I am thrilled to see my friends, professors and admissions staff. I have pretty awesome classes (modern art, biology, women and spirituality, journalism II, video production), and love to learn about new ideas, concepts, theories — anything really. As long as I learn something new every day and walk away a better person because of it, I am glad to be living and breathing on this crazy planet we call Earth.

That said, it is tough to balance school, work, and play. I think we need to seriously consider adding a day to the calendar called “Give Me A Break Day.”

I will tell you this: Every calendar I own is filled from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. I admit I have workaholism — there are many “isms” in life so having this “ism” is not the worst — and live for the thrill of making deadlines and not jumping off a bridge. There are so many aspects of college and it can sometimes be overwhelming at times. As a matter of fact, I told a professor that, if I make it to tax season and I am not bald, I will make it through anything. If you don’t know what I am talking about, you never truly lived. I like being spunky. Sane people must be so boring! Call me crazy, but isn’t living for the moment the best feeling? Come on, who wants to follow every rule and guideline?

Here is one of my life rules: It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Seriously though, it is tough to be a full-time student and balance life. Professors now expect students to have a job and make it balance. Yikes! Don’t put on the pressure or anything.

Now I understand what Darwin was saying about survival of the fittest. I completely understand now. It is true: only the best survive. That’s because he never said anything about the sanest. (That is pretty twisted.)

Just thought I’d share that balancing the books is not as easy as it looks, so appreciate the moments in life when you are able to breathe … let alone take a single breath.

Yup, it’s that time of year folks. School is back in session. Get the sneakers out (or stilettos in my case), and hit the ground running.
