As of press time, it is still unclear why Solange Knowles attacked her brother-in-law, hip-hop mogul Jay Z, in a New York City elevator. Meanwhile, the hotel where the incident took place is investigating how a security tape of the altercation made it to TMZ.

“We are shocked and disappointed that there was a clear breach of our security system and the confidentiality that we count on providing our guests,” The Standard Hotel declared in a statement provided to the media late Monday, the day that the footage hit the celebrity website. “We are investigating with the utmost urgency the circumstances surrounding the situation and, as is our customary practice, will discipline and prosecute the individuals involved to our fullest capacity.”

The video appears to have been filmed by a camera aimed at a security screen that was displaying the original footage. In the 3-minute-plus clip, Jay, along with his wife Beyoncé, Solange, and a security guard are standing in the elevator. The rapper and his sister-in-law are clearly having some type of verbal argument that Solange attempts to turn physical multiple times. In each instance, the bodyguard has no choice but to physically restrain the younger Knowles. Jay only makes contact with Solange when he is attempting to protect himself.

As the hotel investigates how the footage leaked to TMZ, the Internet is speculating on what Jay Z and Solange could have been arguing about, and why Beyoncé chose to stand idle throughout. The hashtag “#WhatJayZSaidToSolange” has been trending on Twitter since the video went viral. Some of the tweets associated with the tag included, “It’s a shame your career can’t reach as high as your kicks,” and “Solange, you got to press the button on the way up, it’s Bey’s turn now…”

A number of memes from “Street Fighter,” “The Matrix,” and of the involved parties also circulated online. People commonly joked that Jay Z now had “100 problems,” an ode to his 2003 hit, “99 Problems.” A few also said that this was “the first hit that Solange had in years.”

The altercation occurred as Jay, Beyoncé, and Solange were leaving The Boom Boom Room, a popular and high-profile nightclub at The Standard. The three were leaving a Met Gala after-party. There were no reports of any incident between Jay and Solange from inside the club.

A rep for Beyoncé’s sister would only confirm to TMZ a screenshot of a purposed tweet from the singer explaining the incident was fake. Jay and Beyoncé were seen in public Monday night, sitting courtside as the Brooklyn Nets dropped Game Four of the NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals to LeBron James and the Miami Heat.
