Who
…is the “one man band” who will play a free concert tonight at 6 p.m. at The Sanctuary (172 N. Wyoming St., Hazleton)?
Nick Coyle is the guy for the job, playing as part of a show to help introduce the new venue to the region.
Coyle combines guitars, synthesizers, and unique vocal abilities with crowd-moving drum and bass grooves. He has recorded and performed internationally for more than 15 years. His music has been featured on a wide variety of media outlets, including ESPN, FOX, NBC, MTV, VH1, “Howard Stern,” Sirius, and EA Sports’ NHL game series, to name a few.
Coyle’s early career was with nu metal group Strangers with Candy, which then changed its name to Lifer and signed with Universal Music to release a self-titled album. After Lifer disbanded, Coyle then formed a band called The Drama Club.
His new full-length LP, “Sound Makes Waves,” is set to be released digitally worldwide via ChoirFire/Ingrooves July 22.
What
…wonderful works of art will the AfA Gallery in Scranton be showing?
The first floor gallery will be overtaken by Lynn Gano and Gary Magakis beginning July 3. Gano’s prints and drawings feature a relationship between humans and insects, while Magakis’s metal furniture is primarily influenced by the mountains and valleys of Pennsylvania. The opening receptions are July 4 and 11 from 6 to 9 p.m., and the exhibit will be on display until July 26.
The second floor will feature work by Mike Asente and Moniques Luchetti. Asente’s work begins with found objects and his experiences, while Luchetti’s work comments on human relationships with nature. The exhibition will be on display from July 3 through the 26, with opening receptions on July 4 and 11 from 6 to 9 p.m.
The gallery is open Thursday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

…can you take the wee ones for a day of fun activities?
The Lackawanna Historical Society will host a Children’s Day at its headquarters, the Catlin House (232 Monroe Ave., Scranton), on July 12 from noon to 3 p.m. as part of the Lackawanna County Library System’s Summer Reading Club.
Children of all ages are invited to explore local history by touring the Society’s collections, seeing local artifacts with a member of the Frances Dorrance Chapter of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology, and playing old-fashioned games, among other events.
The event is free and open to the public.
When
…did the first Scranton Jazz Festival take place? 10 years ago!
The 10th Anniversary of the music fest will be celebrated Aug. 8 through 10 at the historic Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel (700 Lackawanna Ave., Scranton).
Entertainment includes multi-Grammy award winning group The Manhattan Transfer, jazz legend Bucky Pizzarelli, French jazz vocalist Ilona Knopfler, trumpet great Nate Birkey, Clarence Spady Blues Band, the Keystone College Jazz Institute Student Combo, the Mike Fahn/Chris Rodgers tribute to Woody Shaw, the Marko Marcinko Latin Jazz Quintet, and much more.
There will be a main stage and “jazz walk” that includes numerous downtown Scranton venues.
