October 5 was a day of uniting for a common goal while having a great time. The Getaway Lounge and Entertainment Complex, hosted its third annual Save The Pumpkins Breast Cancer benefit. All proceeds benefited Candy’s Place in Forty Fort. There were raffles, great music by local artists including Andrew John Sleboda, 40 Lb Head, Zayre Mountain and Robb Brown.

If you would like to help raise money, there is an ongoing month-long raffle for an autographed Philadelphia Flyers jersey, chances are $1.00 and the drawing will be Oct. 31. You can purchase Save the Pumpkins Cards that will be displayed throughout the bar the entire month.

The Getaway Lounge has a reputation for hosting many local charity events. Owners Kim and Joe Mack are area philanthropists always looking to give back to the community whether it is through charity bike runs, concerts or contests at the bar. The next big event at the Getaway Lounge will take place October 19, 2014. It is the 9th Annual Tom Engle, Kris Kringle holiday toy drive.

This is the ninth year for this great event. With the holiday season quickly approaching, the goal is to provide as many local families as possible with presents from Santa under their Christmas tree. It is held in memory of Ashley’s Chief of Police Thomas R. Engle Sr. Admission to the event is either a monetary donation or unwrapped children’s toy. This event has been kept alive all these years by Engle’s daughter, and Getaway Lounge manager Theresa Engle-Kastendieck who puts the happiness of area children at the top of her priority list.
