The 20th annual Lebanese Heritage Festival is about to overtake the streets of downtown Scranton on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Members of St. Ann of Maronite Church in Scranton will host the event which begins at noon.
The event will end at 7 p.m.
According to a news release, the festival began more than twenty years ago when church members were searching for a way to celebrate and honor their Lebanese heritage.
The decision was made that every year a festival should be held following Sunday mass.
Over the years, the festival has gained traction and now attracts thousands of people.
Visitors can take part in cultural crafts and activities, take part in traditional dancing and try some authentic, home cooked Lebanese food. Some dishes that will be highlighted include kibbe, a dish made from cracked wheat, minced onion and finely ground beef, hushwe, a flavor-packed dish made of ground meat cooked in clarified butter, seasoned with cinnamon and toasted pine nuts.
There will also be loubia, a dish made from beans, tomatoes, onions and garlic, the more commonly known tabouli, stuffed grape leaves, spinach, hummus and other meat-pies.
Traditional Lebanese desserts will also be served.
