For the first time in 12 years, the annual Fall Film Festival at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock will last three weeks instead of two, the better to showcase what organizers Hildy Morgan and Ronnie Harvey call “this explosion of wonderful films.”

Harvey is especially looking forward to “Boyhood,” a film that followed the trajectory of a boy’s life, using the same young actor for 12 years. “I’ve heard nothing but praise about it,” he said.

Morgan is excited about “Belle,” a period piece based on the life of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the illegitimate mixed-race daughter of an aristocrat who joined forces with her husband to help end slavery in England. “It’s a glorious idea that show how people can become a powerful force for good,” Morgan said.

The festival opens on Friday, Sept. 19 with a gala that includes food, wine and two light-hearted movies, Woody Allen’s “Magic in the Moonlight,” and a comic buddy movie called “The Trip to Italy.”
